Prenatal Yoga with Laptop

Prenatal Yoga

The practice of yoga during pregnancy in a woman's life promotes optimum health of the body, mind and spirit.

A practice uniquely designed for pregnancy, prenatal yoga can help support moms-to-be mentally, emotionally and physically. Yoga helps to unify the physical, emotional and spiritual growth between the mother and that of the developing child. Prenatal classes focus on pranayama (breathing exercises), meditations, opening the hips, restorative poses, core/leg strength, and relaxation. Prenatal yoga can help future mothers become more resilient during and after pregnancy.

Why Prenatal Yoga?

We practice yoga during this amazing and transitional time in a woman's life to bring her a sense of peace, tranquility, and a connection between herself and her baby. We use yoga to encourage the connection between movements and breathe. The movement of the body and the breath are one, continuously flowing and synchronized. When pregnant mother learns to link their breath and movement they create a powerful energy which connects them back to themselves. Focusing on this connection is one of the goals of prenatal yoga.

Typically, we hold our breath during time of panic, fear or anxiety...things that a pregnant woman might experience during pregnancy or labor. Our aim is to help moms facilitate the connection with their breath so they can use it at any time they need. Yoga teaches us that even when we are in poses or situations when we might not necessarily be comfortable, we can always come back to the breath. When a pregnant woman fully comprehends this, it will help her in labor tremendously. Women can learn to release fear and pain with the connection to her breath.

Yoga encourages us to allow the breath to be the motivation in our movement, to form the link of breath and movement cultivating energy to flow within us.
